Sudan INGO Forum, an umbrella organisation of international NGOs active in Sudan, reported that for the first half of 2026, hospitals, schools, markets and other civilian infrastructure across North Kordofan had been damaged or destroyed in drone strikes.870 Between 1 March 2025 and 17 August 2026, Insecurity Insight recorded 26 attacks on health care in North Kordofan, 21 of which were reportedly perpetrated by the RSF. The attacks resulted in the destruction of two health facilities and damaged twelve more.871 Between 1 March 2025 and 31 May 2026, the organisation documented three attacks on schools and three on universities, with five of these incidents causing damage or destruction to the infrastructure.872

In their offensive against El Obeid, the RSF in June 2026 specifically targeted fuel stations and electrical generators, rendering life in the city ‘unbearable’ for civilians.873 Further drone strikes on El Obeid reportedly hit water stations, leading residents to face acute water shortages.874 Road infrastructure was also a target of drone strikes, for example in June 2026 two bridges south of Umm Ruwaba, and a major highway near Ar Rahad.875

Throughout the first half of 2026, the US-funded and globally operating Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) continuously warned of the risk of famine among displaced populations around El Obeid, as the continued insecurity caused disruptions in access to food.876
