In the reference period covered by the previous EUAA COI Report Sudan – Security Situation (February 2025), the RSF captured the state capital Wad Madani in December 2023 and subsequently took control of most of Al Jazirah state.998 The RSF's control over the state was marked by numerous reports of attacks on villages and looting,999 as well as killings among the local population.1000 In early 2025, the SAF and allied forces recaptured the state, leading to reprisal attacks especially against the Kanabi community whom they accused of collaboration with the RSF.1001
