2.15.3. Security incidents

Between 1 March 2025 and 31 August 2026, ACLED recorded 36 security events in River Nile state. Of these, 18 were coded as battles (12 of them RSF drone strikes that were met with SAF anti-aircraft fire), 12 as explosions/remote violence and 6 as violence against civilians. The highest incident rates were recorded in April 2025 (seven incidents) while all other months recorded between zero and five incidents. During the reference period, ACLED recorded security incidents in four of the seven districts1199 of River Nile. The highest number was documented in Atbara district (22 incidents), followed by Al Damar district (8 incidents). Of the 6 incidents coded as ‘violence against civilians’ with 12 recorded fatalities, 3 involved the Darfur Joint Forces and 1 the SAF.1200
