Between January and June 2025, OHCHR documented 124 civilian deaths in the context of the conflict in South Darfur.666 Between 16 November 2024 and 15 November 2025, the organisation documented 229 civilian casualties in the whole Darfur region, excluding North Darfur.667 Between March 2025 and April 2026, AOAV recorded 213 casualties caused by explosive weapons in South Darfur,668 peaking at 152 deaths and injuries in December 2025.669
Drone attacks resulting in civilian casualties were reported, for example, in Nyala in August 2025,670 in Katila in December 2025,671 in Sengo area in April 2026,672 and in Kubum town in May 2026.673 ACLED observed that the security incidents it recorded in South Darfur between 1 March 2025 and 31 August 2026 caused an estimated 1 073 fatalities.674
