The SAF claimed full control of the state by the end of March 2025. 1002 A map provided by the Africa Center for Strategic Studies, showed Al Jazirah state under complete control of the SAF as of the start of July 2026 along with the presence of allied armed groups such as the Sudan Shield Forces (SSF), the Sudanese Popular Resistance Force/Mustanfareen, the Darfur Joint Forces and the Al-Baraa Bin Malik Brigade.1003 The First Infantry Division of the SAF was stationed in the state capital Wad Madani together with a presence of the SSF.1004 The SSF further reportedly operated in the Al-Butana plains bordering Gedaref state.1005
