According to IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Data, as of 30 July 2026, River Nile state was hosting 294 782 IDPs, 88 % of them displaced from Khartoum (258 306), followed by 10 745 IDPs displaced there from Al Jazirah. Of the total number of IDPs in River Nile state, 57 700 IDPs were located in Barbar district, followed by Atbara district with 57 060 IDPs and Shendi with 55 860 IDPs. At the same time, an additional 110 displaced persons from River Nile state were hosted in other states. As of 28 July 2026, River Nile state recorded 45 793 returned IDPs, mostly returning from displacement within the state.1213
