IOM’s population movements assessments in Syria, which started as of February 2025, show that there was a decrease in Tartous’s IDP population between February 2025 (around 69 900 out of a total population of approximately 1.16 million, 6 %)740 and April 2026 (around 50 470 out of a total population of approximately 1.26 million, 4 %).741

According to UNHCR estimates, as of 21 May 2026, 12 229 individuals had returned to locations in Tartous governorate from internal displacement since December 2024742 and 10 089 had returned to the governorate from abroad within the same period.743
