IOM’s population movements assessments in Syria, which started in February 2025, show that there was a decrease in Latakia’s IDP population between February 2025 (around 198 950 out of a total population of approximately 1.42 million, 14 %)699 and April 2026 (around 145 180 out of a total population of approximately 1.45 million, 10 %).700
According to UNHCR estimates, as of 21 May 2026, 18 766 individuals had returned to locations in Latakia governorate from internal displacement since December 2024701 and 32 765 had returned to the governorate from abroad within the same period.702
