International commercial flights to and from Damascus were being operated to several countries including Türkiye, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Jordan,1060 Qatar, Saudi Arabia,1061 Libya, Oman1062 and Romania.1063 Following the escalation of hostilities across the Middle East after 28 February 2026, the Syrian airspace was closed on 1 March.1064 Operations resumed at Aleppo International Airport on 4 March,1065 while the reopening of all air corridors and of Damascus International Airport was announced on 8 April.1066 Temporary closures of Syrian airspace were reported again in early June 2026 in response to the renewed exchange of attacks between Israel and Iran.1067
Starting with 28 February 2026, Israeli and Iranian forces have exchanged strikes through Syrian airspace, resulting in civilian casualties, disruption of services and damage to property,1068 particularly in southern Syria.1069
