Between January and June 2025, at least 30 humanitarian and health workers were killed and 8 were injured across North Darfur, Khartoum, Al Jazirah, and West and South Kordofan.399 As of October 2025, 46 health workers had been killed in El Fasher and 48 had been injured since the beginning of the conflict.400 In April 2025, RSF attacks in North Darfur resulted in at least ten summary executions of medical and humanitarian personnel, including nine staff members of an NGO providing health care in Zamzam IDP camp 401 as well as a hospital director during an attack in Umm Kadada district. 402 In early May 2025, during a raid on a hospital in the town of El Nuhud in West Kordofan, the RSF shoot and killed two medical professionals and injured a third, severely disrupting the provision of medical services in the area.403

Following the fall of El Fasher in October 2025, RSF fighters reportedly killed 460 patients and abducted 6 health workers – 4 doctors, a nurse and a pharmacist – at the Saudi Maternity Hospital, the city’s last partially functioning facility.404

According to Insecurity Insight, at least 107 health workers were arrested or detained in 58 incidents across 13 states during the reporting period from 15 April 2023 to 2 February 2026. In the first year of the conflict, most arrests or detentions occurred in Khartoum. Since then, cases have spread to other areas, with increases reported in the Darfur and Kordofan regions. Doctors, emergency medical workers, nurses, pharmacists, and surgeons were arrested or detained by the RSF and the SAF, often on accusations of supporting opposing conflict parties. 405 A pattern corroborated by the information supplementing the FFM report released in February 2026, reporting that ‘among men, former government employees, including teachers and doctors, were at heightened risk, often separated from other captives and not seen again.’406 Staff were often beaten or threatened while in detention. Four health workers arrested by the RSF were reportedly killed while in detention, including a doctor who was arrested in late October 2025 at the Saudi Hospital in El Fasher and shot and killed the following day. Of the 107 health workers arrested, 26 were reportedly released. As of March 2026, the status of the remaining detained health workers remains unclear.407

In December 2025, the Sudan Doctors Network reported that 234 medical personnel were killed since the beginning of the conflict, with more than 500 wounded, 59 reported missing since the beginning of the war. 73 medical workers were being detained in Nyala, South Darfur, under poor conditions.408

In April 2026, the Sudan Doctors Network noted that 20 doctors were held in ‘dire’ conditions in multiple detention facilities in El Fasher.409
