Research on Somalia is challenging due to lack of reporting, security issues, and undercurrent trends. This report also contains information from multiple oral sources with ground-level knowledge of the situation in Somalia who were interviewed or consulted specifically for this report. In some cases, sources were unwilling to go on record. The report also makes ample reference to previous EUAA reports and key statements contained there whenever still relevant.
Both interviewed and written sources used are referenced in the Annex I: Bibliography. Wherever information could not be found within the timeframes for drafting this report, this is stated in the relevant section of the report.
