Learning outcomes & description
DESCRIPTION
This module aims to provide learners with knowledge and skills to address child-specific needs related to potential child-specific vulnerabilities and to assess the child’s level of understanding of the situation in the different stages of the asylum process.
It covers the concept of the best interests of the child, the legal framework, and specific rights of children, as well as their vulnerabilities, throughout the asylum process, for all officers who are likely to come into direct or indirect contact with children.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of this module, the learner will be able to:
Knowledge
-
Identify indicators of child-specific vulnerabilities within the asylum process and their special needs.
-
Identify the child-specific rights in the asylum process in line with the international and EU legal framework.
-
Identify the safeguards applicable to children and their specific needs in the asylum process.
Skills
-
Select appropriate communication settings to facilitate the child’s participation in the asylum process.
Competences
-
Propose relevant actions to be taken based on the special needs and the best interests of the child within the asylum process.
DELIVERY METHOD
This module is delivered through a blended learning approach, combining online studies and face-to-face sessions.
The online component focuses on learning activities that assess progress toward the learning outcomes, and the face-to-face sessions focus on child-specific needs related to potential child-specific vulnerabilities that require discussions and work groups.
ASSESSMENT STRATEGY
The assessment strategy is based on one assessment conducted at the end of the module.
The assessment is based on a case scenario in a form of a video, with six questions covering tasks such as identifying vulnerability indicators, proposing actions to implement rights and safeguards, and appraising understanding and rapport-building with a child.
