Trauma-informed Care Approaches in the Context of Asylum and Reception

Vulnerability and special needs

A mapping report capturing findings from across Europe

This report explores the implementation of trauma-informed care across European asylum and reception systems, based on a survey conducted in March 2026. The findings emphasise that identifying trauma-related needs is an ongoing, trust-based process requiring timely support, effective referral pathways and multidisciplinary cooperation. They underline the importance of complementing existing vulnerability frameworks with trauma-informed approaches that promote safety, trust and well-being, while reducing the risk of re-traumatisation.
