Marios Kaleas, from Greece, elected as new Chair of the EUAA Management Board
Mr. Marios Kaleas, the Governor of the Greek Asylum Service at the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, has today been elected unanimously as the Chair of the Management Board of the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA). Mr. Kaleas has been a member of the EUAA Management Board since 2023 and previously served as its Deputy Chair.
The EUAA Management Board is composed of representatives of the EU Member States, the European Commission, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). It is responsible for giving general orientation on the Agency’s activities and carries out a number of tasks which include discussing the situation of asylum in the EU+ and approving key EUAA documents and reports.
Mr. Marios Kaleas is a graduate of the universities of Macedonia and Thessaly. He also holds a post-graduate qualification from the University of Sunderland in the United Kingdom. Mr. Kaleas has worked with the Greek Asylum Service since 2013, the organisation that he currently leads.
