Gender, gender identity and sexual orientation

DESCRIPTION

This module aims to provide learners with a practical approach on how to best conduct an interview that supports the disclosure of issues relating to gender identity and sexual orientation.

It covers the norms and human rights violations relating to SOGI claims, with a focus on the legal framework to enable practitioners to conduct a proper evidence assessment.

It prepares learners to apply this knowledge in the context of  the processing of SOGI claims.

At the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

1. Identify gender, gender identity and sexual orientation factors when a claim for international protection is processed.

2. Explain how experiences relating to and attitudes toward gender, gender identity and sexual orientation influence the way claims for international protection are processed.

Skills

3. Apply an appropriate approach to gender, gender identity and sexual orientation when a claim for international protection is processed.

DELIVERY METHOD

This module is delivered through a blended learning approach, combining online studies and face-to-face sessions.

The online component focuses on learning activities that assess progress toward the learning outcomes, and the face-to-face sessions focus on complex elements that require discussion.
