COI and MedCOI modules

COI and MedCOI modules focus on the use of Country of Origin Information (COI) as a key element in the assessment of applications for international protection. They support asylum professionals in gathering, assessing, and applying reliable, relevant, and up-to-date country of origin information to inform decision-making.
COI plays a central role in asylum procedures, providing information on the situation in countries of origin and supporting objective and well-reasoned decisions.

  • applying the relevant quality standards when dealing with COI questions

  • assessing COI sources
  • applying the appropriate strategy/strategies when researching COI
  • conducting COI research on vulnerable groups, Article 15 (c) QR and exclusion
  • applying techniques for drafting useful COI products

  • conducting peer - review of COI production
  • assessing health-related claims through Medical Country of Origin Information (MedCOI)
